I think a gearbox oil change would make the shift even more smoother.I had a big problem and heaache trying to figure this problem out.So i thought id help some others out with the same problem.Apply the grease liberally as vw did not put an engine cover under the shift linkage so water probly washed the old grease off. xJay1337. First thing you'd want to do is slap on a multimeter onto the battery and measure the voltage. Should be around 14.4v charge. with the engine off the battery should be over 12v. Your symptons suggest a duff battery because you'd get an alternator light in the event of an alternator failure.
