Guy on mx5atlanta has a very extensive build thread for his 1.6 turbo project. Unfortunately every thing that could go bad did, so he's parting it out now because if how much he put into it. Anyway, his name is Fastnfurious7 on the boards if you'd like to find it.

To your kit..I think a small turbo is going to do more with a 1.6 than a supercharger. I had a small garrett on mine and it had full boost by 2800 - 3000 rpm. Lag was just about non-existent. 200 hp estimated power. I never dynoed it but the 0-60 times calculated against weight were close to that number. There are many things that you can do in order to decrease the weight of your MX-5. Replace your old seats with a set of seats that weight less. Get lighter wheels and tires. Change metal components with carbon fiber, etc. Think about exhaust. What makes an exhaust important in terms of HP is that it makes your Miata breathe. Next is alignment, then more bracing, neumatic air jacks, another set of wheels and tires, electric power steering, bump steer kit, the list goes on. Also tucked the main harness under the itbs. The miata never was a fast car, and while its damn fun with 200+hp…something can be said about it at only slightly above stock power. And those ITBs made such an orgasmic noise. Turbos a wayyyy better bang for buck upgrade as far as go fast bits..but I would say ITBs make for a equally fun miata.

Moxnix, yes, a factory hardtop would be enough to make the car eligible to run in spite of being a 2 seater. In reply to Don49: Thanks for the tip - I can defintely go further than a Spec Miata; figures an SM would jsut be a good reliable base to start with.

The engine in my car is "massaged" with a modded pump, injectors, a VNT15 turbo, and a 944 turbo intercooler. It makes about 110 HP and 160 ft/lbs, not crazy powerful, but more than the original air cooled gasser ever made -- it's fast enough to be fun. In short -- sorry, but 26 HP/45 mpg just stinks out loud --. Tom. 1.6 engine is good for mid-200s and the gearbox considerably more - into the 300s. Weaker links are the clutch and the differential.
